I realize, however our customers are not having trouble (this is the
first I've heard). I don't actually see a license for you - are you
using the free edition?

Well, we do not have the resources to support every different possible
tool you could use to accomplish the same as we have designed
ourselves. If you use different tools you will be left to resolve these
sorts of issues. You can, of course, still just use the Qt translation
system for this one piece (ie translate the strings it looks for).

Yes, it will not go into 3.2.x - it will appear in a later release.
