I have unfortunately had to use OO (version 2.0 in Debian Etch) off and on for the last couple of months to deal with editors corrections. She uses Word (of course), but OO has been good - it reads her corrections properly and she can read my comments about them, all in "Rev Mode" as the Word folk say. But I would sure hate to have to use it for a major writing project!! Anyway, I think if you liked the idea of using Word macros to massage your manuscript, you should at least take another look at it.
