I've written you offlist but will explain here:

I called Apple yesterday and they said we'll have to take it in to an
Apple Store, which I'll be doing here in a bit. Second, we have wifi,
no wired internet (would an Ethernet cable fix that)? Third, I booted
from recovery partition and did it that way.
