Sorry for the late reply but, what version of garageband are you using?
I only ask because the latest version is completely different from the older
version.
If you are using the new version I got a couple of documents from another
site that might help you out.

Ok, nobody has come back to me regarding getting started with GB, so maybe
somebody can tell me this: Are there instruments already available within
the app, I can see what VO reports as an empty table for instruments, but
when I interact with the table, I can see certain instruments listed, but
can't make any of them play. What do I need to do? -
