If you're ever curious about cycle usage fire up the Terminal (Utilities folder) app and type "top". Top tells you what each process is doing, how much RAM it's using and what % of the CPU time it's using. You can get this from ProcessViewer (Utilities folder) as well. After getting over the idiosyncrasies of X I'm finding that in many respects X 10.1 it's just as zippy, if not more zippy on my G3/450 than OS 9.2.1. Application launch times are phenomenal in OS X 10.1!!! IE 5.1 is open in three bounces (vs 15-20 in OS X 10.0.4) as is nearly every other OS X app. I wouldn't mind 10.1.1 for a full-fledged Finder fix but 10.1 has made me happy!
