Hi Awhile ago there was a chat about problems connecting to Rogers ADSL. I did not follow it because it did not concern me then BUT I have been asked by a friend if I know how to or what the problem is for him connecting to his ADSL using OS x. do any of you remember what the solutions were. The first question would have to be is it Rogers Cable, or is it ADSL? Cable connects via DHCP via a cable "modem", while ADSL connects using a DSL modem via PPPoE.
I've been connected via cable for 5 years and can connect via a home LAN anything from an SE/30 OS 7.1 to an iBook 900 OS 10.2.6.
Problems I've encountered setting up Cable are usually hardware, such as a bad modem or network card.
Problems with ADSL include MTU size having to be changed (Macs usually send 1500 while sympatico prefers 1492) Access Manager for OS 9 used to be buggy. Version 1.25 seems more stable.
Advantages of cable, always on, no PPPoE, easy to set up a router for use with a lan.
Advantages of ADSL, not always on but require login, router configurations require logins and passwords initially to be set up. Be sure to change the password and login from default on the router!
As far as OSX and ADSL, the main problem I've encountered has been the MTU settings, there are utilities to change these settings in OSX though.
