thanks once again for all the suggestions.
It seems clear that if I chuck the Airport Base Station in favour of the routers you folks suggest, I would lose the convenience of accessing our USB printer from our home network. So I'm going instead for the option of getting an ADSL modem to hook up into the AEBS.
I was checking the Apple website and they feature the Hermstedt XBridge ADSL Ethernet modem. They claim it is designed specifically for OS X and it would suit the AEBS like a glove (they would, wouldn't they). Apparently installation is a snip etc.
So the remaining question is: anyone with any experience of the Hermstedt?
