I've got a few of those - fortunately they're for unimportant contacts so
I tend to just ignore them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one :-)

I have 4 main calendars and I'm wondering now whether I should have
created a new copy of each for 2005 and 'de-activated' the 2004 ones. The
only problem would be having to duplicate any repeating items that needed
to carry over into the new year. Syncing wouldn't be any quicker either I
guess.

Hmmm...I don't have too much in my iCal that you couldn't call
appointments or to-do items (the latter is so long now, and keeps showing
the least important items first, that I've started ignoring it). I'll
have to do another purge and see if I can move anything else out of it.
