I'm not sure if this is actually a recommendation, but I can tell you my
experiences with a Logitech Stereo 20 USB Headset.
Firstly let me say I was looking for a pair of headphones for gaming/music too.
For Skype only (and any other VoIP service) I would probably suggest a mono
headset (only covering one ear), you just end up shouting with a stereo headset
on 'cos you can't hear yourself - we end up minimising the headset and having
one ear muff half way up the side of our head...
The sound quality for calls is fine, length of the cable fine, and their
comfortable. The one problem I have is with actually getting sound out of them.
For some reason when I switch to the logitech headset in the sound panel of
system preferences the don't work until I mute and unmute them! So even though
Skype can automatically use the headset I still have to faff with system prefs
before making a call. Not ideal.
This is on a Quicksilver G4/933, with the headset plugged into the keyboard -
I'd try one of the other USB ports I have but the G4 is well under the desk
because it's so noisy.
So, YMMV.
Also check out the Gizmo project, looks better than Skype in the long term 'cos
it's SIP based, they gave 25cents of free calls for calling out too:
