For Skype only (and any other VoIP service) I would probably suggest a mono headset (only covering one ear), you just end up shouting with a stereo headset on 'cos you can't hear yourself - we end up minimising the headset and having one ear muff half way up the side of our head...

Also check out the Gizmo project, looks better than Skype in the long term 'cos it's SIP based, they gave 25cents of free calls for calling out too: http://www.gizmoproject.com/
Yikes...I can see that all these VOIP services are going to end up like mobile phones and instant messengers. Lots of providers, trying to work out which ones are compatible and hoping that the one you pick doesn't end up getting bought out or disappearing altogether...
