Cordless phone, wireless LAN and anything else based on Radio wireless is highly dependent on the manufacturer of the product, the components, the antenna used and the power the transceivers at both ends are capable of pushing out. As such it's hard to tell how good a base station will be without testing it. Reviews help but only to a marginal extent as they are never going to be in the same building as you and every building, especially stone, is different. The fact a cordless phone doesn't reach all parts of your house indicates you probably have thick walls, but then I guess you knew that!. I can't see that sandstone could be that big an interference factor unless it's very iron rich orange or red sandstone, or you have rising damp in the walls. That said the fact it's there might be enough, and the thick walls of an open granular material will possibly scatter the signal a bit also.
