Advice on wireless range please.

Does the fact that my Panasonic DECT cordless phone cannot reach all parts of my sandstone home suggest I should consider the newer MIMO (108Mbps) standard rather than eg D-Link DSL-902 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Router DSL-G604T for better range?

Thanks

Here is my non-technical observation.

I live and work in an old 18thc stone built Scottish farmhouse house with 700mm thick external walls all over the place, with an irregular plan. The phone fails if i take it beyond the kitchen (other side of the stair hall). The Linksys WRT54G wireless router however functions without a noticeable problem well beyond the range of the phone in more or less any direction. Some of the internal walls are 170mm plaster and lath but it seems the iBook can function through two such walls and a floor, or through the stone walls without any trouble. This suggests to me that the phone and the router are not on a par.

As a side bar, we tried three or four different phones from BT before we go one that was any good and able to reach as far as this one does (Diverse 5350/5300) and some of the options are terrible.
