If I understand correctly, x86 Mac users wanting to run a stock copy
of Windows would need to partition their HD so they can boot into
either OSX or Windows. A x86 version of VPC would negate the need to
setup a separate partition and presumably would run much faster than
it does today.

So my guess is that a purchase today would in fact be a viable long
time investment.
