Well if WINE[1] becomes available for OSX on x86 and gets better application
support, there'd be little reason to pay Microsoft for VirtualPC or Windows.
Admittedly it needs to be better to compete with VirtualPC, but who knows what
the next couple of years will bring.
So my guess is that a purchase today would in fact be a viable long
time investment.
I still think it's debatable.
