Ronald, thanks for your advice... and I just may visit Canon site for 
support.  Also, Allen, I will save your email as well, but first (still 
getting familiar with the terms)... what is a "plug-in"??  I see them all 
the time everywhere, but have steared from them because it has been 
"unfamiliar territory."

PS:  I have been playing with the scanner this evening.  What I am getting 
tonight (after selecting ScanGear) is the same as last night.... "Cannot 
connect... check scanner connection... " etc.
