Marta,
I can set Safari up to open in a blank web page. Even if I reboot the
computer, Safari will remember the input to open a blank page. That part
works as advertised.
My problem (Safari's problem?) is that I cannot set my opening page to
whatever page I want. It always opens to http://www.apple.com/startpage/. If
I want to always open to Google, or whatever, I should be able to do that. I
cannot do that on my laptop. Frustrating.

Greg
