My mac mini at work is a core-2 duo (bought mid-2008 if I remember correctly). 
It has been quite reliable, though it has the old-style pry-apart method for 
replacing memory. 

It does feel a bit slow by now relative to my MacBook Pro (June 2009 version). 
The latter feels, as it should, a lot faster.
