Here's what I remember... Appletalk is a networking protocol. EtherTalk and LocalTalk are two implementations of that protocol, one over TCP/IP and the other over serial RS-422. The network cabling for serial RS-422 could either be LocalTalk (using Apple's funny connection boxes and cables) or PhoneNet (using RJ-11 cables). It was confusing in the past - when all we had was Appletalk - describes both the protocol, its implementation *and* the cabling scheme.
