Depending on your badnwidth/needs, it would seem that a 400 Mhz G3 would
be pretty serious overkill for a firewall.

I ran a NAT/firewall using IPNetRouter for a few years, sitting on an old
IIsi. Granted my internet connection was simply a 384k SDSL line, but I
was able to saturate the SCSI -> Ethernet box (600Kbs), so it would seem
IPNetRouter would have gone higher had my adaptor supported it (SCSI ->
Ethernet was one side, IIsi PDS ethernet was the otherside, with the SCSI
adaptor being the lower speed rated device).

But hey, if you are sure you want to do that compared to just leaving
your Slackware box going, take a look at IPNetRouter. I was very happy
with the product. The only reason I stopped using it was because my IIsi
ate its hard drive (litterally, it threw a head and tore the platters to
bits), and I had to get service restored ASAP, so using the spare LinkSys
box I had sitting on a shelf was the easiest way to do it. I intended to
one day repair the IIsi, but now my needs have moved beyond that of
IPNetRouter. I need to do proxy filtering, so I'm actually looking at
going TO an x86 box running Linux... humm, maybe you just want to send me
yours when you retire it :-)

Sure, its a standalone product. You can buy new copies from Apple
directly. And I'm sure you can probably find older versions on ebay or
other similar places (looks like ebay has a number of copies available).
I see no reason that it wouldn't be legally transferable to another user.
