It sounds like the HP may not be set to listen for EtherTalk (or doesn't support it at all). You can change those settings via the front panel on the HP itself. It may be easiest to print a config page first so you can see what the current settings are. Also a Menu Map may help navigate it. Menu button Right, Info button Right, Select, gives you a menu map. Menu button Right, Info button Right twice, Select, gives you a config page. The 2nd page of the config page will tell you what protocols are available and what their status is. There is a good chance EtherTalk is turned off. (or you are using a JetDirect card that doesn't support EtherTalk, or can't support more than one active protocol at a time). That of course assumes you are using a JetDirect card at all (are you plugging the ethernet directly into the HP?
