I've asked this question on a few other lists but got no answer. I can only guess that this is such an obscure matter these days or there really are no good solutions. Anyway, one more attempt here:
I have a G4 1.25 GHz MDD acquired from a friend that was originally built to order without a modem. The cable is taped to the spot where the modem would otherwise be installed. The RJ-11 jack is also covered by what looks like a metal plate. I need a modem because I still have dial-up and no broadband service. I figure my options, in order of preference, are: 1. Order an internal modem as a service part. I assume all I need to do is plug it in? And what do I have to do to uncover the jack, if it's even there? 2. Get a third-party PCI slot modem. Does one exist that works out of the box with OS X? 3. Get a third-party external USB modem. Again, does one exisit that works well with OS X? 4. Get a USB to serial adapter (like the one by Keyspan) and use an old serial modem. 5. Get an Airport Base Station with modem. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.
