Ah - To be clear, my strategy was that I was going to ask wife and one other SL user to stop using desktop iCal for a while and only use it through the web interface for now. A podunk solution I know, but I've had such frustrating calendar sync issues over the past few months that I couldn't wait any longer to see if iCloud would finally get everything sorted out.
