I don't think people go out and say "hey, i want to use perl on mac os x",
I think it's an opportunistic type of thing. "Let's see, I have OS X, and I
want to make sumthin'... whoa! perl!"

There are already utilities that turn shell scripts into double clickable
programs (although my quick two minute "how does this work" test didn't
seem to go well), and there's an Applescript OSAX out that allows you to
interact with the Unix subsystem, which can have some fun perl side effects...

The funny thing is this: I'm a perl coder, and I've always developed code
on the Mac, mainly because I haven't found anything that can beat BBEdit
for development. When OS X came out, suddenly all my tools were usable with
the latest Perl, and none of the idiosyncracies of MacPerl. And there was a
real Apache that would mimick behavior exactly as the final project.

It made me so happy that I renamed my hard drive "Splooge" for the
occasion. It hasn't changed since, because quite frankly, thinking of my
Mac with the power of Linux makes me all wobbly.
