Simon,

First off, you hit the nail dead on the head with describing all these things. Great job!

That said, I'm honestly not in the least bit meaning this to be rude, so don't take it as such, but Anders, why in the first place do you feel you need a VPN? I'm not doubting you in the least, but most people who are either setting up their own VPN server, or are going through a VPN provider generally know what these terms mean. I'm not saying that you don't need a VPN, please know that up front. I'm only trying to ascertain the general reason. You don't have to go into the nitty gritty specifics, but is it work related, or what? I ask as again, you might not even need a VPN. Most people who get them do so for an extremely specific reason.

Hi,

A VPN is virtual Private network,

It is like a tunnel that connects your computer securely to your home network or more commonly to your work place network through secure protocols

PPTP is a transmition protocol which is used in some VPN connections, it's a more common protocol and if I remember correctly it's widely used in widnows vpn systems as Microsoft have a lot to do with it,

 There is also
L2TP,
SSH, secure shell, probably another more common one now,
SSTP, secure socket transfer protocol,
The later is probably the one I'd look at if I was setting up my own VPN as it requires a certificate as well as log in creds,

There are a number of others but it really depends on what your looking for and how much your willing to pay.

Hi!
There’s a Vpn service in Sweden called Bahnhoff that can give me Pptp or vpn for a very low price.
However what is the difference between a vpn and pptp.
Is there less security in the later or is it the same as a vpn?
Thanks.
