Yeah, Europe is totally cool with Free-to-Air, they just haven’t caught up with the Internet yet. :) Fortunately some commissioner wants to watch foreign sport or something, and Europe has a common market, so … not long now. :)
The BBC still has a place for me, but I’m afraid they’re slipping more and more into the waiting arms of mediocrity as their content licensers have them firmly under their control and are using that to exercise all the usual exclusivity nonsense, even at the expense of British viewers. Even their reporting is not what it once was. It’s been hard for me to feel bad about the government’s increasing cuts to it as a consequence. They have massive archives of premium content that I’d love to get at, and they still commission some really great content, but it seems they get more out of threatening people with fines and restricting people from cross-platform access to programming than they do from charging subscription service fees for the 21st century and actually selling in-print material that people want to buy.
