VoiceOver definitely does multithreading. There appear to be separate
threads for each active window plus a few. I can't remember now but I
believe that most MAcOS programs can dynamically adjust their threads based
on needs. One other neat feature is that if an Application is full screen,
the OS knows this and will essentially drop all screen updates for other
applications. I believe I even saw improvements on youtube windows when the
window with the movie is hidden from view.
Good idea to flush cache occasionally, though the purpose of cache is to
make the system more efficient if the cache is storing too much information
its indexes might get overwhelmed or the computer might have background
processes attempting to purge old cache items. I am pretty much
conjecturing on this, as I don't know exactly what type of information is
stored in the cache directory.
