Petrus,

You should need to change anything,

I never have and it seems to work for me.

Thanks I’ll try that next. I did look in the phone settings and found the
books app. I opened that and under the reading heading it had a button labeled
“full justification” and it was off. Should this be on?Auto hyphenation was on,
and “both margins advance” was off. Do I need to change any of these settings?

Hi,

When focus is on the textual area, do a three-finger swipe from right to left
like you were turning a page in a book. This will take you to the next page,
and it will start reading that next page. Not a continuous thing, but at least
should get you further along than you've been getting.

Sorry, done that too. The books app is totally hopeless fore reading text based
books. It keeps freezing up and I just can not get it to read past the first
page of whatever section I’m trying to read. I’ve even lost the button where I
can check all the sections and choose one. Hopefully it’ll work better when I
update too IOS 13. I find it really good fore reading audio books and have
always found it hopeless for text books.

Hi,

Try the two-finger swipe up then.

Yes, that is what I’m doing and it is only reading the first page of that

Hi,

Once you're in the section where the actual text is, swipe down with two
fingers. It should read that page, flip to the next and continue on.

Hi,
This is going to sound silly as I must be doing something wrong. I like to
think of myself as pretty good as far as using IOS and voice over on the
iPhone. But I’ve always had trouble reading text based books in the books App.
I downloaded the iPhone user guide for IOS 13 and found the paragraph regarding
accessibility and jumped to page 800 and something, but I can only get
voiceover to read the first page of that section. How do I get it to read the
entire paragraph? I’m still on IOS 12.4.1 as I’ll update tonight when my wife
is home. I always like to have some working eyes around before I start the
update, not that I’ve ever had any problems with updates before. So I might get
better luck reading the user guide after I update.

Hi,

Have you looked in the Apple Book Store. Apple has an iPhone user Guide for
iOS 13. It would have all the VoiceOver stuff under the Accessibility section.
These books are automatically updated as the iOS is updated. It is in the
store now.

I am one of those folks who vastly prefers text based resources for learning
rather than Podcasts. I find that much more efficient, especially when it comes
to needing to refer to something that you’ve already read and forgotten. So, I
am wondering if there is going to be a text based resource this year for iOS
13. Jonathan Mosen used to do an excellent one, but he’s not doing it anymore.

I know a couple of folks have done text based resources, and Anna, who is one
of them, is on at least some of the list where I’m sending this message. The
thing I liked about Jonathan‘s book was that it came out when you needed it,
simultaneously with the upgrade. So I’m wondering if anybody knows whether
Anna‘s book or perhaps Shelly’s book are going to be released in the near
future. Hoping for something besides podcasts, please!
