Hi there! I just had a play in the users section, and I think that's done the
trick. It's a shame that hardware growler has
to announce every part of the system when it starts, because after that, it's
very useful, but now the start up process is
very, very talkative. I'm jst testing whether or not it worked with growl tunes
now. Thanks also for telling me how to hide
stuff. I actually have hidden all start up stuff in hopes that lion will
actually let me land on the desktop now. VO still
seems to require a command tab before it will start, but that's a problem for
another day.
Thanks for helping me figure this out. Let's just hope that all the extras
added to startup and not just the hardware
growler.
Take care, and I hope you're having a great day!

Hi Missy,

Go into system preferences, users and groups, and find the login items tab.
There you can configure what items will start upon login, and even hide wants
you want minimized but still started.

Subject: RE: More Growl questions

Hi! I'm posting this to the list because other folks seem to be asking about it
as well. I don't know how to explain it any
more than I already have. I'm using the version of growl purchased from the
itunes store: currently version 1.3.2. I somehow
got the impression that the older version of growl wouldn't work with lion, and
it wasn't expensive, so I went for it. I
think what's confusing everyone is that the new growl installs in the apps
folder as opposed to the way it worked under snow
leopard where it was configured under system preferences. The new way actually
makes sense to me, but I'm wondering if all my
issues with things refusing to run at startup might have been resolved by using
the old version. Anyway, with this new
version, all you have to do is find it in your apps folder, open it and you'll
see all the preferences. Under general, the
last button is more downloads. I actually got growl tunes and growl saphari
from the extras folder under growl 1.22, but I
think you can also get them from the button I just described. I just can't
figure out how to insure that all the extras run
at startup, and so far, nobody is answering that; they're just asking me more
questions. LOL! Basicly, I guess my question at
this point is how the heck to add stuff to startup on the mac. I know people
clame to run skype or their twitter client at
startup, but how is it done. If someone can tell me that, then I think I'll be
all set with getting all the various growl
tools to work on a permanent basis. I don't know if there's a place I can find
documentation to answer my questions.
Anyway, once you track down all the extras you want, you'll go to the growl
tool bar, again, this is in your apps folder and
you just open growl to find it. Go to applications and start tweeking stuff the
way you want.
Good luck.
Missy

Hi Missy,

Can you email me off list and give me a sort of walkthrough on where to get all
that stuff and set it up? I never knew you
could do all that stuff with Growl, it'd make my life a lot easier.

You just open the growl app from your apps folder and you'll be in the settings
panel. Go to applications and work from
there. Still can't figure out how to insure that all various extras run at
startup, though. I really want them all to work at
all times, but I know the hardware growler in particular won't do anything
unless I open it manually. Still trying to figure
out about the others. Is there a startup folder I can add them to like in
windows to be sure they'll run?

Oh cool, will look into that; how do you go about configuring them, or is it as
simple as setting them up? I'm kind of
confused here.
