I found a combo box and at my end it's set to delete gmail's copy. Does this sound familiar?

It has been a couple years since I found and changed the setting. At that time,

unfortunately,
the standard view gets very confusing on Safari in OS X. Also, I can't seem to
get into settings from there and a lot of the features available in standard
view are simply not visible in basic html mode. I have sent emails to googles
support team until I am blue in the face and the problem still has not been
fixed. what do I have to do? Sue these guys just to get their attention? Unlike
a lot of others in the US., I am not one to file a suit at the drop of a hat
(its far too much work and stress for any beneficial payoff).

David and all I cannot find this setting. Do I need to be using the standard

You need to go into Gmail preferences on the Gmail website and change the
archive permanently deleted items to unselected. The default is for this to be
selected.

hmmm. Every time I have tried to permanently delete something from GMAIL, it
always comes back (my trash folder has well over 10,000 entries in it right
now). I use imap here with mail.app so that my emails that I want aren't stored
locally.

How do you get gmail to permanently delete something and actually not have it
remain stored in all mail )or anywhere else) without having to use the web
interface?

No unfortunately I permanently deleted them from the gmail. They should be in
all mail but are gone. I didn't delete anything from all mail just permanently
deleted my sent and trash folders. Praying that a Time Machine restore might
still have them, as they should but can't figure out time machine.

they are probably either still in all mail or over in trash. they can be moved
from folder to folder pretty easily. So long as it hasn't been 30 days since
you last deleted anything, they should still be there.

Oh God, I think I just realized why my messages are missing in the folders
where I had everything labeled/archived. I deleted permanently in gmail all my
sent messages as there was 10,000 and I am always emailing myself stuff and
then apply a label and put the email in the proper folder. Phone numbers
account log ins. Am I assuming correctly that the deleting of the sent mail
folder also overrode the label and folder I had moved the message in to? If
this is the case I am totally screwed as I had a ton of stuff saved. If this is
the case then this gmail problem with Mavericks totally screwed me. Not sure
why an email that I moved to folder a placed a label on it would only be in the
sent mail folder, you would think placing a label on it or archiving it to a
folder in gmail whatever they want to call it would take it out of the sent
mail folder. Can someone let me know if I totally screwed myself by deleting
the thousands of messages in the sent mail folder. I hope I am wro
ng,
but considering I checked the gmail app on the iPhone and the messages I
labeled and archived are gone from there to, I think I screwed myself.
