All traffic goes to a set of internal relays that handle the traffic, they have
been pointed to them for some time. This all seemed to start several months
ago, it seemed like overnight the traffic to the list server greatly increased
and the mailman service that had been rock solid for years changed.

I did notice today that there was effectively no outbound traffic queued in
mailman but the postfix queue delivering inbound to the service did have
messages queued up almost like the handoff to the mailman service was not
working. A quick reboot immediately cleared that up but the nature of the how
the reboot happens has me thinking postfix may have some sort of issue. At time
reboots can happen very quickly but I have seen during these times a queue
build in the MTA reboots can seem to drag on. As a test a few times I have
shutdown postfix first before the reboot and things return to a quick
turnaround of the system, almost like postfix is delaying a clean system reboot.

Check where the stalled messages are going. If they're going to one
or more of a small set of hosts, the remote MTA(s) may be throttling
you, or just overworked. (This is very easy to identify at RoadRunner
for example: they just close the connection after about 3 messages
from the same source. :-\) "SPAM Promotes Arbitrary Madness" in mail
admins. :-(
