As a close to my topic (and I thank the people who responded), although I did not find exactly what I was looking for, I did find a fascinating article that would be of interest to anyone who teaches Latin.
E. McCartney, "Was Latin Difficult for a Roman?" in CJ 23, 1927, pp.161 ff. McCartney organizes grammatical discussions or anecdotes that appear in classical authors regarding everything from Greek borrowed words to trouble with gender, agreement, and number. Hope this helps. Ed ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To leave the Mantovano mailing list at any time, do NOT hit reply.
