I have worked quite a bit with Tiger 1999 and Maptitude works fine,
including the GISDK procedures which are needed if you want a block build
with water blocks (to avoid "holes").

Tiger 2000 (and the Redistricting files are just starting -- alas without
demo data -- to be released on the Census web site) is another story. I
have encountered a number of problems using both the file import and the
GISDK ImportTiger function, at least with the block level data. I've
imported some other Tiger 2000 files (MCDs and VTDs) and they seem fine, but
since I'm getting problems at the lower layer level I'm reluctant to vouch.

I have an inquiry into Peter regarding this and will share any answer I get.
Since Caliper is selling a Mapt for Redistricting which will require such
capabilities, I would expect if there are problems they will need to rapidly
resolve them. PL 94-171 data starts getting distributed Mar 1 or so, and
that will be at the block level for pop, housing, and race. Some states
(Virginia and New Jersey for example) are really under the gun since they
have Fall 2001 state legislature elections and will need to complete work
quickly to avoid serious problems with dates for petition/filing and
primaries in the election cycle.

Anyone else with similar experiences?
