Hi Mathew,
your XMLs look fine to me, the attribute (chrStart) does exist. Just
to further your testing, I would say instead of chrStart use chrEnd
twice and see if it works. your exportable's attributes key would look
like:

attributes = symbol_list,chrEnd,chrEnd,orientation

I know it will fetch incorrect data but for debugging on your XML, would
be helpful. and please do a --clean run of configure script every time
you change your XML, followed by a kill and restart of your apache to
see the changes.
