I'm white, working-class, a Texas expat, and I stopped voting for Democrats when Clinton ran in 1992. Why? Because I knew he would carry forward the neocon agenda with a liberal facade. I'd been raised by a native Texan Humphrey Democrat father and adored my Republican grandfather, in an intensely Pentecostal family. I turned to the left after the 80s convinced me never to trust Republicans, a lesson I first learned from Nixon. Like many apolitical Evangelicals, I found Reagan alluring when I was 17 years old in 1980. By 1984, Reaganomics had forced me to drop out of college for the first time, which I've done repeatedly for financial reasons. I've raised two children, studied political philosophy intensely since 1988, when I was able to pull off two years in a State university using student loans.

I reject both the Democrats and the Republicans because they are both enemies of my class. The Democrats are marginally better on a few social issues, but I voted for Nader in 2K, after abstaining for both Clinton elections. The Democrat backlash against the Greens left me with no choice but to either abstain again or hold my nose and vote for Kerry, which I did quite frustratedly. The Greens began to make headway in Illinois as the corruption of the the major parties resulted in governors being jailed from both parties. Our gubernatorial candidate is an ex-Socialist Labor Party member, which made me quite enthusiastic, though after Blagojevich was gone the Democrats have rebounded.

My attraction to the GP soured when Cynthia McKinney, who I voted for in 2008, began claiming Qaddafi was a socialist, a laughable prospect. I am torn between complete abstention again or supporting the Socialist Party's Alexander/Mendoza ticket. If the Greens get someone in there with a brain, I'd still consider them.

The white working-class doesn't vote for the Republicans more than Democrats, we are more likely to completely abstain.
