BUT -- the extreme inequalities (in economics and in political clout) of
"capitalism with Chinese characteristics" requires MUCH MORE state
repression than even the Britain of the 1800s ---

Result --- (see the Langston Hughes poem "A Dream Deferred" [a.k.a. A
Raisin in the Sun] --- ) --- Chinese history up till the Republican
revolution of 1912 went in long cycles of rises and falls of dynasties ----
the "dynasty" inaugurated by Mao and subverted by Deng's capitalist
restoration will have a much shorter cycle --- what will result when the
masses are truly fed up is of course completely uncertain --

It would be MOST interesting if the amount of intellectual lip service paid
to Marx and Marxism has some kind of lasting effect ....
