Not a bad article, but Gindin does not explain how these new, noncapitalist organizations he proposes would be different from the plethora of existing organizations, envirornental and otherwise. All of whom are part of the nonprofit industrial complex, and continually bend the knee to their big corporate donors. Such groups Gindin describes would have to be openly ecosocialist, and/or red-green anarchist in nature. Those of us with long memories are well aware of how groups that started out fairly radical became increasingly corporatized, and mainstreamed, over the decades. Greenpeace comes to mind. More recently, we are seeing a similar developing with groups like Extinction Rebellion.
As for unions, I don't doubt there are union members, and local leaders in every existing socialist or communist party in the US. Again the author misses a major point here. While individual socialist parties have seen tremendous growth in recent years, the movement is made up of many small, fractured parties, that are continually fightingover sectarian minutae. To say nothing of elements of the DSA trying to suck all the air out of the room, by getting socialists to support the Democratic Party. There is no telling what might be accomplished if all these groups were to unite in a single coalition. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
