Is there any way forward for the left but some sort of front centered on demands--issues, if you will--on which nearly all can agree? If out of this a program emerges--or if one or another current sectarian or fragmented program achieves prominence--then perhaps the door to political power can open a crack.
For what it's worth, I myself frequently sign petitions put forward by this or that Democratic Party front organization or Greenpeace or the other organizations with which I have significant or even irreconcilable differences. I support the campaign to free Assange. Why not? I'd be very happy if Trump were prosecuted or if strong environmental legislation--or Medicare for All--were passed, even though I do not believe that the current political infrastructure within which such demands are presented is to be perpetuated, nor that such demands can be more than transitional. I am no acolyte of Assange, but believe that his current persecution is a dangerous and--dare I say it?--nearly incredible outrage--one among miilions, but important nonetheless. What does this say to the Sputnik left or the brain-dead vulgar Graeberite petty-bourgeois anarchist left, or really sinister stopped-clock hyper-authoritarian groupings like the so-called Socialist Equality Party? I'm not sure. But such formations at present are clearly blocking the way forward. If you can't purge them, then the only tactic is to go around them while trying to put forward the aforesaid slate of more or less universal demands. It isn't given to everyone to be a revolutionary hero (me particularly). But anyone IMO may put her shoulder to the wheel as a concerned citizen. This may not be for the likes of Cmrd.
