Interestingly enough, especially with respect to the war in Ukraine, both camps are internally divided so that some ML-ists and Trotskyists share the anti-NATO perspective on the war and the same is true of ML-ists and Trotskyists who believe the Ukrainians are engaged in a national liberation struggle against Russian "imperialism". The same divisions are also apparent with respect to the tensions in the South China Sea. This and other overlap is owing to the terms "Trotskyist" and "Stalinist" having little contemporary relevance. They derive from a period when avowed Marxists held power or were poised to take it through armed struggle, and the disputes turned on crucial tactical and strategic questions. That is far from the case today, even though the analyses, slogans and demands issuing from those identifying with either tradition seems to suggest that nothing much has changed. The only common point of reference for today's "Leninists" would appear to be that a disciplined vanguard party based on democratic centralism is essential for the revolutionary conquest of power - at all times or when conditions again place that form of party organization on the agenda. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
