Now that Trump and the MAGA Republicans will fully preside over all three branches of the federal state, it will be interesting to see as early as the 2026 midterms whether they retain the loyalty of voters beyond their core base. Workers still won’t be to afford the rent or buy homes, the immigrants won’t have all been deported, and well-paying jobs won’t have returned from overseas. That may create opportunities for the left to grow, although the lion’s share of any dissatisfaction in the duopolistic political system will necessarily go to the Democrats.
That’s how bourgeois democracy works; the masses don’t so much elect as lose confidence in governments, the fate of a number of incumbent left-centre parties in the US and Europe since the recession of 2007-08.
