A losing battle? Do tell? One of the things that non-energy interested folks do, is a kind of cultural momentum, assuming nothing ever changes in the world, especially in public opinion and, on the ground about what is actually go on. A true nuclear Renaissance is underway (unlike the 2000s attempt which was almost killed at birth). Keep in mind what I wrote, most/many countries especially in the developing world are "deploying every form of generation". This includes both solar & wind (S&W) as well as hydro (the land/hydrology favors it) and nuclear. Currently there are at least 60 reactors under construction world wide and in countries that one wouldn't necessarily expect. Such as: Bangledesh, Iran, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt. The UK is building a huge plant of 2 reactors and looks to build about 8 more as their natural gas supplies run out. Countries that have large build outs include China, Russia, France, and other countries. These numbers appear to be increasing daily. Countries investigating or starting to overturn badly thought out bans on nuclear includes Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Vietnam, Indonesia, Belgium, the Nederlands and yes, even Germany. New ground on new reactors is occurring monthly and, it seems, lots of contracts being signed for the advanced "Small Modular Reactors" (300MWs or less) are almost daily being signed all over the place. I'm writing this not to advocate for nuclear in this message but to challenge one of the largest forms of denialism I've ever seen in the "renewable" energy and climate communities which is the almost absolute ignorance of the state of nuclear deployment. Cynically I say "good, let them wallow in their solar fantasy land" and continue to ignore the only form of generation that has truly reduced significantly GHG emissions. By repeating such radiophobic haikus about nuclear essentially has allowed the pro-energy and pro-nuclear side to dominate.
