Good question. We use about 70,000 tons a year as fuel for reactors and for
military weapons. Uranium, like any raw material commodity under the political
economy of Imperialism reserves of it depend on what the price may be, per
pound, at any given time. When the price goes down, the "amount" of
"economically recoverable reserves" goes down. When the price goes up, suddenly
the amount goes up as well. So the simple answer is "decades". The number of
decades has gone up as the price I believe is now up over $100lb. On the other
hand, with so many reactors starting construction and going online (mostly in
China for now) that supply might dwindle some. On other hand, again, both
reprocessing of older Spent Nuclear Fuel and the advent of fast reactors, means
we can use the SNF over and over again while "breeding" new fuel. And then
there is Thorium, which can be used in its raw state...and several dozen
countries and companies are working on Thorium reactors.
