To be sure – and the variations (whether they are changes or not) go opposite to Marcuse: Marx put class struggle in capitalism primary, that's what he drove home in Capital. He also suggested what communist liberation could be from his early manuscripts through to his late comments on the Gotha Program. Marcuse wants only the latter, so he labels work where Marx emphasized class struggle as "repressing" the vision.
