Obviously he went through a radicalization. I have to be able to distinguish communists who are "anti-Stalinist" from those that are not. It is not used as a slur in this way when debating the different positions *within* the broader communist/Marxist movement. Unusually he went from being an analyst for the OSS (predecessor for the CIA) to being a proponent of Marxism and anti-Imperialism.
