Then I can distinguish people who are anti-Trotskyite from those who are not.
If (anti)-Stalinist is not a slur, then neither is (anti)-Trotskyite.

No, he tried to fuse Marx, Hegel, and Freud from the 1930s. He was an analyst
for the State Department 1945-1951. Marcuse, quoted by Walker, can try to paint
it all as working on denazification, but there was precious little of that.
There was plenty of research on countering Soviet influence in Germany and
eastern Europe, part of the Cold War. Thanks again to Walker, citing "As the
era of the Cold War began, Marcuse's focus as intelligence analyst moved to the
Soviet Union."

And yet another thanks to Walker, citing Marcuse's next period, "He received
Rockefeller grants to study Soviet Marxism, both at Columbia (1952-1954) and
Harvard (1954- 1955)."

Then Marcuse found himself darling of the flower-child culture in the 1960s.
Anti-communist throughout.
