As a Jewish-American, I could have a lot of things to say about this. What followed from my pretty early break with Zionism, when I was 13 (after visiting Israel), was followed decades later as a break with any warm feelings toward any of the Abrahamic religions, Judaism included (especially since there is zero evidence for any historical figure known as Abraham OR Moses). I'm 69 so I'm somewhat of an outlier and being a Marxist also pushed me away from any warm feelings toward the Israeli state. Visiting Israel in 1970 and seeing, at least as far as I was exposed to it, the latent racism toward Arabs by almost all Israelis I met there pushed me over the edge, especially given my own family's experiences in the Civil Rights Movements of the 1960s and 70s. I should add that Israelis are far in a way easier to talk to about all this than American Zionists.
But the generational break with Zionism, an ongoing process, is really a generation too late. That is, it should of occurred more with the later half of the boomer generation and the start of whatever we assign to the post-boomer generation. Oh well...our parents were wedded to all things Israel and criticism of that state was verboten only to cause upset with our elders. I should point out that the seller actions by Jewish Voices for Peace was the result of Jewish-American experience win left and progressive politics broadly speaking. I should also point out that I think it was only about 10 years ago they actually declared for "anti-Zionism". Before that, they were neutral or abstained on the question. David K.
