I agree with the strong sentiment expressed above about the need to unite 
behind the Mandani movement but here is an early example of the contradictions 
and difficulties it will increasingly face as it is forced to navigate between 
its base and the power structure.

As Travis says, supporting Jeffries is undoubtedly necessary to win " support 
from political leaders in higher offices who hold the purse strings...to get 
things done" but it also risks discouraging the militant "youth who are taking 
action" and tarnishing the image of the movement as representative of " what a 
truly democratic approach to change looks like."

Should Mamdani have supported rather than rejected Ossé's bid to unseat 
Jeffries? It's an unfair question to ask of anyone outside of the coalition 
with only a second hand acquaintance with the issues and personalities involved 
and the present relationship of forces between the leadership and oppositon 
around this question ,  but I doubt even within our own small circle there 
would be unanimity about how to proceed if we inside the movement at this early 
stage of its development.
