Whether elements of that might lie hidden in the DSA now, seems quite unclear.” I believe this can only be discovered and addressed through sustained and sympathetic contact with the Mamdani ranks, whether acting independently or as a member of an organized tendency or group.
It's not a given that Hochul, Schumer and the rest of the DP establishment will turn against Mamdani if he were to reverse course and support a challenge to Jeffries by Ossé or anyone else selected by the DSA membership. Their ceasefire is based on self-interest rather than altruism. They recognize how strong is Mamdani’s personal appeal and program to Democrats and how many were alienated by their refusal to endorse him for the mayoralty until his victory was assured. So they have to be concerned that he could enlist more Democrats and other New Yorkers against them if they were to actually cut off funding for the city. Trump’s extraordinary praise of Mandami yesterday, besides his mafioso respect for a “winner”, was also owing to Mamdani’s popularity with his own working class base in NY.
