Maybe we can put this thread to bed. I joined it with the comment that "t he Republicans have drawn their support from small property owners in the cities and countryside as well as the more atomized and politically backward sectors of the working class opposed to the labour movement and its allies" https://groups.io/g/marxmail/message/40525 Charles (surprise! surprise!) disputed my characterization of this MAGA working class cohort as "politically backward", and you both objected to my saying " the general sense of decline in the American culture is felt most acutely by white workers who have historically been the most privileged stratum of the working class", by those " most susceptible to racist, jingoistic, and other reactionary prejudices" who had previously "joined with the petty bourgeoisie to provide a mass base for fascism". You would prefer I described these MAGA types as as having come from the "less oppressed" rather than "most privileged" stratum of the working class. Fine. I already indicated it's not worth quibbling about. Time to move on. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
