Don't sure last matplotlib version (and numpy) is in Hardy repositories. Here we do : 1- sudo apt-get --purge remove python-numpy* python-matplotlib* python-scipy* 2- manually remove all related folders under site-packages (with eggs!) 3- download and install manually numpy, scipy and matplotlib (and basemap)
