As a newbie like myself, I got by with 2 gig .
guess it depends on what you need to install.
One flavor of ppc linux only requires 400mb
but many packages are not installed with this option
so its not really a desktop replacement rather a sever
or terminal..

If it were a pc list someone would say a floppy.
